Lukas Podolski and Górnik Zabrze Foundation Show Mercy to Flood-Affected Club
Football players are known for their skills on the pitch, but some of them go above and beyond to make a positive impact off the field as well. One such example is Lukas Podolski, a key player for Górnik Zabrze and a true legend of the club. Not only does he excel on the pitch, but he also takes an active role in supporting the team and searching for new sponsors. As a World Cup winner in 2014, he has proven that he has a heart of gold.
In September, Podolski showed his generosity by donating 100,000 PLN to the „Kibice dla powodzian – Śląsk zawsze razem!” collection organized by the Wielki Śląsk Fan Association. This gesture earned him a special thank you from the fans of Wrocław. But that was not all – he also donated another 100,000 PLN to the Górnik Zabrze Foundation, which aimed to help those affected by the devastating floods that hit southern Poland.
One of the clubs most affected by the floods was KS Unia Bardo, which plays in the A-class league. The club’s stadium, building, and sports equipment were all severely damaged, leaving them with a long and difficult road to recovery. „The scale of the damage is enormous, and it will take a lot of time to restore everything to its previous state,” the team wrote on social media.
Fortunately, Podolski and the Górnik Zabrze Foundation were not indifferent to the tragedy. A few days ago, they donated a 20,000 PLN gift voucher to the club, which was announced on social media by the Gmina Bardo and the club itself. „We would like to thank Lukas Podolski and Górnik Zabrze S.A. for their support! In these difficult times, it’s clear that football unites us,” wrote Unia Bardo.
But that’s not all – there’s more to come. The authorities of Gmina Bardo have announced plans to organize a mini football tournament in the summer of next year, featuring three teams from the affected areas and Górnik Zabrze as a special guest.
Unia Bardo’s drama has been widely reported, and the club has already received help from other sources, including Piotr Zieliński, who offered his support in October. „On behalf of the entire KS Unia Bardo, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Polish representative and Inter Milan player Piotr Zieliński for his wonderful gesture and financial support for the rebuilding of our club after the flood. Piotr has once again proven that he is not only an exemplary player on the pitch but also a true hero off the field. Thank you for being with us!” wrote the club.
Podolski has already played in 15 matches this season in all competitions, scoring twice and providing one assist. His team currently occupies sixth place in the Ekstraklasa table with 30 points after 18 matches, eight points behind leaders Lech Poznań. Górnik Zabrze will return to the pitch on February 2, when they face Puszcza Niepołomice.
