The festive lights that brought joy to Warsaw’s residents and tourists alike are set to disappear from the Royal Route. This weekend is your last chance to marvel at the retro-style decorations inspired by the 1950s and 60s.
The Bożonarodzeniowa iluminacja, which lit up Krakowskie Przedmieście, Old Town, and Nowy Świat on December 6, 2023, featured vintage-style decorations reminiscent of a bygone era. The display included retro toys, Christmas tree decorations, garlands, baubles, and even a vintage Syrenka car and Ryś motorbike. The attention to detail was impressive, with even a retro phone booth and horse-drawn carriages adding to the nostalgic charm.
The preparation of the decorations took a staggering 132 days, with over 40 people involved in the installation process. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the lights will be dismantled starting Monday, February 19. If you haven’t had a chance to see them yet, make sure to take a stroll down the Royal Route this weekend.
According to the city officials, „On Krakowskie Przedmieście, the green garlands on the lamp posts will still be lit up for a few more days. These are inspired by the popular Christmas lights from the Pabianic factory, with over 500 large lamps. Meanwhile, the trees on both sides of the route have been adorned with digital RGB lights, which, thanks to an intelligent control system, shine in colors corresponding to the different seasons, creating a colorful journey from spring to winter.”
Don’t miss this last opportunity to experience the magic of Warsaw’s winter wonderland. Take a walk down the Royal Route, breathe in the festive atmosphere, and snap some Instagram-worthy photos before the lights disappear until next year.
